Bob Clark (1941-2007)
Director Bob Clark made a lot of awful films: Porky's, Rhinestone, Loose Cannons and Baby Geniuses to name but a few. However, Clark also made the passable Tribute which earned Jack Lemmon an Oscar nomination and Murder by Decree, which I've never seen.
However, none of these matter because his tragic death (alongside his son) at the hands of a drunken driver have taken the life of the man who made one undisputed classic and if A Christmas Story had been the only good movie he ever made, that would be more than enough.
Every year when TNT shows it for 24 hours around Christmas, it ensures that there always is something worth watching. The film never gets old. It's sweet, it's funny and it's irreplaceable. Thank you Mr. Clark, for leaving us one of the greatest Christmas gifts of all.

Murder by Decree is good, scary fun - a moody suspense thriller which puts Sherlock Holmes on the trail of Jack the Ripper. Sadly, many of its plot points were cannibalized by the far inferior From Hell, but the earlier effort - with an outstanding ensemble featuring Christopher Plummer, James Mason, Genevieve Bujold, Donald Sutherland and John Gielgud, among others - is by far superior.
